Your stem looks like it could be sage – you said you were shooting macro; how little is this bloom? I think sage has very tiny flowers. I’m quite impressed by all this outdoor macro shooting, especially while you were trying to keep up with your family!

Looks like Penstemon (aka beard tongue) to me.
Didn’t the farmers market have those little plastic signs in the pots identifying the flowers?

Nope, I take it back! Looks like Leucophyllum frutescens aka Texas Sage! So, you were right!
