Decisions, Decisions

It’s time to paint another room in our house and since our dining room is this weird shade of ugly blue, it’s at the top of the list. I just can’t stand to look at it anymore and that color has to go! The thing is, I have no idea what color to paint it! We have light-colored cabinets and I don’t want them to blend into the wall, and on the other hand, I don’t want any dark colors, either. So off we went to Home Depot to look at the paint colors. There must be thousands of them, which doesn’t make this any easier. I came home with a few – for now – but may have to go back for a few more choices. This is the cabinet we have and the sideboard Both birch veneer.

Lol, you don’t my advice, cause I have NO fear of color, every room is a different one. I like dark colors for dining room’s, more formal I guess and I think a dark color would bring out the birch more.

Good luck deciding…………what are the current favs?

  2. Honestly, I haven’t even “really” looked at them yet. And dark is OK as long as it’s not TOO dark… more of a medium shade I guess. Having a window or two would make a big difference, but our dining room is smack in the center of the house (we have an odd floor plan and no hallways) and most of the natural light comes from the kitchen windows. So if I pick a dark color, it’s going to make it look like a dungeon.

What about an accent wall? Are both pieces on the same wall? You could do a lighter room (so you don’t have the dungeon, but on the wall with your cabinet/sideboard you could use an accent color.

  4. I don’t think an accent wall is going to work, because there is paneling and trim (chair rail?) in that room. I don’t know if that will look weird with an accent wall. Taking that stuff down is NOT an option! LOL
I’ll be back with some pictures of the dining room…

Anyway…maybe a darker, earth tone would be nice with the furniture?
