2009/39: Monopoly
Greg bought this game recently, for “family night”…. knowing that I hate Monopoly!! I really do. Call me weird, but I think this is the most boring game and it takes f o r e v e r !!! But then of course I’m expected to help Sara, because at 5 years old, she can’t really read yet, or count out the money, and I’m stuck playing anyway. I did for a little while, but then I left it up to Greg to help her. After all, I did warn him before he bought the game, that I wanted nothing to do with it.
We used to have this game when I was a kid, and I hated it then, too. My sister would beg me to play it with her until I finally gave in. But I played to lose. I “forgot” to collect money when she landed on one of my properties and when I landed on one of hers, I gave her too much money and told her to “keep the change”.
I love Monopoly! I can’t wait until my guys are old enough to play. So funny that you used to “play to lose” 🙂

I’m afraid I am a Monopoly freak, too. I’ve even played in tournaments! My son is finally old enough and my daughter is borderline. My wife is like you, so she tends to help my daughter. However, its during the trade-talk between the two of them that things get touchy!!!
BTW—I like this photo, taking the picture while the car was on the colorful question mark was a great idea.

There are Monopoly tournaments?! I’m on the fence about Monopoly. I agree, the game takes entirely tooooo long. We played it on Wii awhile ago and that wasn’t as bad lol

I’m also on the fence about it, I will agree that it takes way too long. But I do enjoy the game. There’s electronic monopoly out now too………I haven’t played but we have the Life version. So, no paper money, there’s debit cards…….it’s super simple to figure out, PJ can play with no help. Adn updated with real amounts, it’s a great learning tool as well.
Great pic!

Tournaments? I’d be the first one out, and happy about it! LOL
How old are your kids? Sara is 5 and the very first time she played (me helping her at first, and then Greg and Melissa helping, but mostly just counting the money, reading, and letting her know when someone landed on one of her properties), she won, and she won BIG! Totally made her day 🙂
I didn’t really think about the picture when I took it. Just tried different angles, and different game pieces, but I left everything the way it was when they took a break from the game. This is the one that turned out the best.

Doreen, I had to “free” your comment from my spam! No idea why it ended up in there.
We’ve seen the electronic version, too, but Greg bought this one because it was on sale for $10.
I tried to talk him into getting The Game of Life instead, but he said “next time”. Fine! Have family night without me, then! 😛

LOL!! We have star wars monopoly. Seriously, I so rather being something else. I played it a few times to stop Max from begging me but I find it so boring. We got Life for hanukkah…way too many rules. Of course we got the indiana jones version so who knows if it is anything like the original…LOL

Love this pic. I have played Monopoly many times – and the old fashioned board version IS the best, in my opinion. It can go on way too long – I agree! But as long as you don’t take it too seriously, and the game is oiled with some quality wine and nibbles, and sprinkled with good conversation with witty friends (after a tasty meal) it’s just fine!
It’s a bit of a tradition for us because London is so close to our hearts.

Hi there, found you on Ivoryhut. I’m on your side! I’m married to a board game geek and there are so many better games out there. At least you got a great shot though. 🙂

I am also on the fence…but I have to say, we have the electronic Monoply and I like that one so much better. We have the electronic Life also…that is fun!

Monopoly? I used to end up in jail a lot. I haven’t played it in years. Maybe I need to rediscover the game.
I just discovered your blog through Carsten’s blogroll. I like your photos and the way you talk about your kids, so I’ll be back.

Amber, you can come over when Greg and the kids play!
Carsten, losing Monopoly is fun, because that means the game is OVER! 😉
Hi morningjoy! Thank you! And thanks for stopping by 🙂

Awesome shot M. I (I mean Santa) got a whole slew of games for the kids this year and Monopoly was in it. I havent got suckered yet into playing it. We also have the game of Life which is maegan’s favorite. Me, I love Scrabble 😀

Merna, I love Scrabble, too, but Greg can’t spell to save his life, so we’ll never own that game LOL

I don’t like Monopoly either. Cool shot though! Where’s the money? You should have taken a picture of the cash. LOL.
