2009/166: Bonus! Vacation Planning 101

  • Decide where you want to go
  • Plan your route, making sure you can visit some friends along the way.
  • Log on to Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins & Dives website* and look for “where Guy went”, then go down the list to see what’s listed for the states that your vacation route will take you through.
  • Mark DDDs with a red flag on your map.
  • Take Alton Brown’s Feasting on Asphalt book off the shelf, see what’s on your route, and mark the restaurants with a red flag on your map.

(* Greg has Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives book, too, but it doesn’t list all the restaurants. The website does.)

  4. The green pen is your round trip? Sweetie, you need more red dots, or you will be hungry! lol!

I love the planning stage. I think it is almost as much fun as actually being on holidays. 🙂

  5. How exciting! Will you be able to write a the blog while you are traveling? It would be nice to join you in cyberspace, and see all your photos.

  6. Amber, not as much driving as our CA trip last year!
Blue, the red flags are the restaurants from the TV shows, that Greg marked, and that we’re hoping to try.
Birgitte, I will have a new blog post every day while we are gone, but I won’t be able to post any vacation pictures until after we get back.

  9. Cheryl, I can’t remember how many miles it said… I’ll have the true miles after we get back.
    CA was 4700 miles!!!

Doreen, there a TONS of DDDs in Jersey! And some in Philly, too. Here’s the link to the episode guide, just scroll down the list and look for the NJ ones.

  10. That does look like a lot of driving. Can’t wait to see photos from your trip! The closest I’ve been to anywhere on that green line is DC.

none of the ones listed are around me………except the barnegat light, that’s where the lighthouse is down the shore……..might be worth the drive. We’ll figure something out………….I was trying to think what we did when Merna was here……….do you guys have an aquarium?

    16. June, 2009 at 12:03

  12. Doreen, Barnegat Light might be fun!! I’m game! (My friend Heike is going to smack me if I don’t get any lighthouse pictures on this trip!! LOL). I would rather do that than the aquarium… unless it rains that day.

  18. Well, Greg IS taking the laptop, so technically I could upload vacation pics, but there’s no editing program on it, so they will have to wait until we get back.

Nope, don’t need an iPhone 😉
