2009/290: Kemah
Of course no trip to Houston/Galveston is complete without going to Kemah (at least if you ask Greg!)
Sadly, Kemah was hit hard by Hurricane Ike. Some places are rebuilding, and others still look like this. We didn’t make it to the boardwalk because it was early in the morning and they don’t open until 11am.
The reason for going to Kemah? Dinner! Well.. dinner for Greg and the kids. Only seafood I eat is fish!
add some seasoning…
ready to eat!
Yeah, I’m not a big crab fan either…….well, at least not in the shell, lol! Great pics! How far away is this little trip?

It’s about 5 – 5 1/2 hours from us, including stopping for lunch.

Hmmm, I’d be passing on the crab, too. Now, if had been lobster or bugs…that would be different.

Bugs??

Bugs. Very delicate, sweet meat!
Here, in every restaurant worth its salt, there is a “Reef and Beef” or a “Turf and Surf” dish that has rib or eye fillet beef, topped with moreton bay bugs, or the cheaper versions are topped with prawns. But the bugs are a perfect compliment to the beef. Delish!

YUM on crab!!! That looks so delicious. So did they use old bay or was Greg not that lucky?

Amy, we stayed at a hotel with a kitchen and Greg cooked the crabs (and shrimp for the kids) himself. And yes, that was Old Bay. Part of it anyway. He had some other type of seasoning left and he mixed them together, but it was basically the same as Old Bay.
