2009/329: Poor Melissa

She had all four of her wisdom teeth pulled on Monday and will be getting braces in mid-December.  She was pretty miserable Monday afternoon and evening, and pretty out of it from the anesthesia… and frustrated because she was thirsty and couldn’t open her mouth very far, let alone swallow. But she managed to get a few sips of milk, and take her pain pills, and antibiotic. We made sure she took a pain pill every four hours and even woke her up in the middle of the night. They pretty much knocked her out… and made her dizzy and she needed help walking. The fact that she barely had anything to eat in more than 24 hours (except for a few bites of apple sauce) didn’t help matters either and left her feeling weak.
But, as Tuesday wore on, she started feeling a little better, even ate some soup and a slice of cheese. She was still in some pain, but Advil took care of that, and by evening she was back on the computer, IM’ing her friend Lexi. Her face is still pretty swollen and I’m sure she’s happy that there’s no school this week. The bright side about a swollen face is that mom isn’t mean enough to take pictures for the Christmas card! 😉

Sara was very concerned about Melissa when she came home late Monday afternoon, and drew this picture. She would love nothing more than snuggle with sissy and make her feel better, but of course that only annoys Melissa. Although I’m sure that Melissa knows how much Sara loves her… she just doesn’t want to admit it.

  1. Poor girl. It’s a little comfort that you heal faster in that age.
I’m not afraid of my dentist but I’m not looking forward to having my wisdom teeth pulled.

awww, poor baby!! I had all mine pulled together and then one got infected………omg, pain similiar to child birth! She seems so young to have them pulled………..I guess b/c of the braces? I always thought wisdom teeth got pulled later……………………hang in there Melissa, sounds like you’re on the road to recovery!

Give Sara a hug (I was going to say extra but it sounds like that doesn’t even happen, lol)……..what a thoughtful sister!

  3. Oh no! That sounds terrible! Yes, they had to be pulled because of the braces. They also pulled a baby eye tooth that never fell out because the new one didn’t grow in where it was supposed to.
She’s on antibiotics, too, so hopefully that will keep her from getting an infection.

  5. Poor girl. Hope she’s feeling better and that she can enjoy the rest of her holiday.

Sara is a budding artist. Like her choice of colors.

I had mine pulled all at once too. Sounds as if she is on the road to recovery…glad to hear that. Can’t wait to see her with braces. Is she getting a full set? Andrew started with the herbst appliaance, then the top braces. The herbst just got removed in Oct. and his bottom braces are on…oy! But next fall, he’ll have them off and only have a retainer…

  10. Cheryl, I have no idea what a herbst appliance is, but yes, she’s getting top and bottom. I think she will have them for 2 1/2 years? She’s getting a new type of braces that are supposed to be more comfortable.. not sure what the difference is.
