2010/211: Hard-boiled

Just out of curiosity, how do you hard boil your eggs?
Greg thought he found the perfect “recipe” that said to put the eggs in a saucepan, cover with one inch of cold of water, cover and bring to a boil over medium heat, when water comes to a boil, remove from heat and let stand for 15-17 minutes. Drain hot water, cover with cold water and ice.
Only thing is, that they were difficult to peel, because the egg shells would stick to the eggs.
MY way of making hard-boiled eggs is to put the eggs in a pot of water, bring to boil over high heat, and let boil for 10 minutes. They always come out perfect… like these!

2010/208: From The Archives – Shutterbug

I came across this collage when I went through my files, looking for something else.  These were taken in 2005, with my old point & shoot, and Sara was about 21 months old.

2010/207: Dress

Not just any dress, it’s my favorite! And the sad part is, I had to be talked into buying it (thanks, Amber!) because it’s not my usual style. Of course it helped that Greg liked the way it looked on me 🙂

Btw. shopping with Amber is fun! We met at Fashion Bug a couple of weeks ago because she wanted to look for some new clothes for her vacation, and she had a wedding to go to as well. We had a blast, making fun of the ugly clothes and accessories, and trying to get the other one to try them on. Neither one of us would do it, though. (Maybe next time… we need some new material for the Weird & Crazy blog, we’ve been neglecting).
The girls had fun, too, wandering through the store more or less unsupervised. Afterwards we went to Target and tried to talk the kids into trying on ugly clothes, but they wouldn’t do it either.

2010/206: It Takes A Lickin’

… and keeps on… wait… wrong brand!
In June, Greg briefly took over laundry duties and that’s when Melissa’s iPod somehow made a trip through the washer and dryer.. ear buds and all! I found it in a tangled mess when I took the clothes out of the dryer to fold them. I turned on the iPod but the light didn’t come on. Plugged it into the computer to charge it, and at first the charge light didn’t come on, but changed its mind after a while. It charged fully and still works! Even the ear buds are still OK!

(I’m NOT blaming anyone, even though Greg thinks I am 😛 )

2010/204: Snip

I took Sara to get a haircut a couple of weeks ago. She was actually excited about it and wanted this much cut off! I guess she finally got tired of the tangles, and having to have her hair in a braid all day every day. Bet it made her head feel a bit lighter, too!
(Of course this is Texas in July, so she still has braids most days, just to stay a little cooler.)

2010/201: Rock Painting

We had lots of rainy days during the second half of June, and since we couldn’t go to the pool, the kids painted the rocks they found during our California vacation two years ago.

These are Melissa’s… she’s really into Manga (some kind of Japanese comics) right now.

The rock on the bottom left is 2-sided

And here are Sara’s. She had a little help with the Manga one, Melissa drew it on with pencil and Sara painted it in.

Of course Sara had to make a 2-sided rock as well… and then gave it to me as a little present.

Happy Birthday to my son, Nick! (Sorry Nick, had to post this pic!)
He joined the Army National Guard earlier this year and left for basic training in mid April. This picture was taken the day before he graduated basic, and I much prefer it to the picture he sent me a few minutes before this. I had asked him to send me a picture, and he sent me one of him with about 9 or 10 Hooters girls! BOYS!!!
