2010/201: Rock Painting

We had lots of rainy days during the second half of June, and since we couldn’t go to the pool, the kids painted the rocks they found during our California vacation two years ago.

These are Melissa’s… she’s really into Manga (some kind of Japanese comics) right now.

The rock on the bottom left is 2-sided

And here are Sara’s. She had a little help with the Manga one, Melissa drew it on with pencil and Sara painted it in.

Of course Sara had to make a 2-sided rock as well… and then gave it to me as a little present.

  1. Now I wonder, do the “whites” of their eyes change each time they change clothes..? 🙂

Looks like they had lots of creative fun!

    • Hmm… I have no idea! LOL
And their hair color, too! (At least Melissa’s all have matching hair colors/eyes/clothes)

  3. Very cute! Looks like something my girls would do too; at least the younger one would, the older is probably “too cool” for rock painting now. The younger is also wild about “The Last Airbender” series; I think that might be considered manga or anime. Are those the same sort of thing? I’m not sure.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is anime. And no, their eyes do not change color when they change clothes unless they put color contacts in or they have the type of eyes that kinda changes color depending on what color(s) they’re wearing. I’ll have to take some pictures of ones I’ve drawn and post them. (Sorry I haven’t posted anything in a while!!!!)
btw, I drew those people in chibi form, which is a form of manga that’s I guess simplified? It’s fun drawing them like that! Oh, and did you know that they’re called manga in Japan, graphic novels in the US, and manhwa in Korea? But I just call them all manga like all otaku do! (at least I think all otaku do…)

Oh, yeah. Anime is the animated form of manga. I guess it could be called “animated manga” but it’s just called anime for short?

  10. How FUN! The girls are quite artistically talented! My neice and nephew painted some rocks many years back that I have placed in the garden and they still make me smile when I come across them.

  11. I’ll have to show these to my girls, when I’m ready to dig out the paints and go hunting for rocks that is! Very cool.

  12. When my girls were younger we did a lot of stone-painting, they made many fine stones every summer. But my son have never been interested in painting – unfortunately 😦
So I enjoyed your pictures here instead 🙂

    • Thank you, Truels. Did you save all the stones that your girls painted? We painted some a few years ago and I display them in glass containers in my dining room.
