2010/222: Charlie

A special gift for one of the littlest members of the family.
Charlie was made with love at Build-a-Bear, with two hearts (Melissa and Sara both put one in) and stuffed by Sara.
I was a little disappointed in the store, though. We went to a bigger store that was supposed to have a bigger selection than the one at our local mall, but they really didn’t. It was a choice between this monkey, and a cute little dog, and the monkey won, because the t-shirt fit better. Then when it came time to stuff it, the store employee was going to stuff it herself and I had to stop her and ask if the kids could step on the pedal. Can you believe that?! Stuffing the animal yourself is part of the experience!! We won’t be back to that store. If there’s anything that our local Build-a-Bear doesn’t have in stock, I will order online and request it to be shipped un-stuffed (yes, you can do that), and then take it to the store to stuff it.

  1. I remember the first time my girls went to a store like a Build-a-Bear. My older daughter stepped on the pedal before it was exactly time to start and blew fluff everywhere! I wonder how many times a day that happens in those stores.

    • Well, if they do it they way they’re supposed to (let the kids/customer stuff their own animal), they flip a switch on the other side of the machine, that will activate/de-activate the pedal. It was already on, and when there was enough stuffing in the monkey, she switched it off and stopped the blowing fluff even though Sara’s foot was still on the pedal.

That’s crazy that she was going to stuff it herself. She must have had her mind somewhere else, since that IS what made Build-A-Bear.

  4. Charlie is adorable! Love the angle of the first shot. Would be sooooo adorable enlarged and hung on the wall of the baby’s room (hint, hint). 🙂

    • Great idea! I might send them a framed print for Christmas… along with a few other framed prints, because they have NO pictures on ANY of their walls!

  5. I found a Build-A-Bear when I traveled to Kansas City and fell in love with the concept. Took them another two years before they showed up in my neck of the woods.

You should complain to corporate about that store. They are not franchised so think they might be mindful of a customer complaint.

You’re such a nice mom! My kids have been begging me for years to go there and I keep ignoring them because the last thing we need is more stuffed animals. Ugh!
