2010/298: Corn
We went to the Fall Harvest Festival at Calloway’s Nursery a few weeks ago. Of course they had lots of pumpkins, gourds, fall flowers, and fall/Halloween decorations for sale, like beautiful colored corn.

Ah, pretty!
I’ve been exploring heritage seeds recently, and had some arrive in the mail this week. It’s amazing how many colours vegetables come in, despite the stores carrying a limited range of the same old, same old.
The corn looks great 🙂

Ah, maize…the red one is wild. Never seen one like that before. Did it give your camera fits?

Nope, didn’t have any problems.

Do you have a third color, then you could make a fall triptych. Love the colors.

I think there were other colors, but these are the only two I photographed.

Well I’ve never seen anything of the sort over here… I know one thing, if it’s not yellow then my kids wouldn’t eat it… lol… Makes for some great shots though.. 🙂

I don’t think adults eat that color corn either, Brian! To my knowledge, it is decorative only.
In the less politically correct days of my childhood, we called it Indian Corn. I don’t know if people do that anymore!

It’s Native American corn!

Great close ups. They are beautiful and colorful

Love the corn. Are these macro? If so, do you use a tripod? I’m so lazy when it comes to the tripod.

Thanks! Yes, these were taken with my macro lens.
I don’t use a tripod either, unless I absolutely have to. One big reason is that it’s a flimsy tripod, made for a much more lightweight camera. It does OK when the camera is horizontal, but when I have to tilt it or flip it vertically, it just can’t handle the weight.
