2011/265: Italian Car Fest, Part 4 – Fiat 500

Does this not have CUTE written all over it??!!! This was my favorite car at this car show ♥

1961 Fiat 500
Introduced in 1957 as a successor to the Fiat 500 Topolino that had been in production for twenty years, the Fiat 500 Nuova provided basic inexpensive transportation for the Italian masses and also many more parts of the world. Over 3.5 million were produced by 1975, when this body style was discontinued. These rugged, dependable little cars are held in high regard on their homeland of Italy, and are seen frequently on the streets.

  2. I don’t know if Fiat can replicate MINI magic with the rebirth of this car…I must say that I enjoy your processing of the car photos.

    • I think you meant to say that you don’t know if Mini can replicate Fiat 500 magic! 😉
Only other car’s cuteness factor that comes close is the old BMW Isetta. Anyone remember those?
Processing was done with Magic Bullet’s PhotoLooks filters.

      • I must disagree with you my Teutonic friend….but time will tell.

        • You’re right. He’ll want a “cool” car, like a Mustang or Camaro. That little Mini isn’t going to get him any girls 😉

  3. J Lo is trying her best to sell the newest version of this classic car. You are handling the reflections really well. I found that the toughest part of car shows…they are all so clean!

    • I’ve seen that commercial…. and they had several new models at the Italian Car Fest, including a convertible.
I find the toughest thing at car shows are those darn people walking RIGHT in front of the camera! Then they SEE you waiting to take a picture and refuse to step out of the way for two seconds. SO frustrating! Car shows test my patience for sure!
I have one last post in this series scheduled for Saturday, and I REALLY lucked out to get that car without any people in the frame. Practically ran over there before anyone else showed up LOL

  4. I think these are the little guys who own the garage in the movie “Cars”, aren’t they?

    22. September, 2011 at 15:27

    • Maybe? I’m not sure… it’s been too long since I’ve seen that movie. Never really paid attention to what kind of cars they were either.

  5. So in 1951 we had cars that would go 50-60 miles on a gallon of gas !!! But because we all thought gas was limitless we instead bought cars and trucks with half that mileage … hmmm

    22. September, 2011 at 20:52

    • And of course the bigger, better, sportier cars needed more gas-per-mile sucking power!
At least now the car manufacturers are starting to get smarter again.
      Thanks, Sybil.

  6. Super cute! I think I see you in the bumper on that last photo!

    • Nope, that’s not me 🙂 You can see Sara, though (that little spot of pink in front of the trees/bushes) and the tall white blur to the left of her is Melissa. I’m to the left of Melissa.

  7. I suspect (and hope) that we will be seeing much more of this type of car in the future!

    • Unfortunately these were the only pictures of this car I have to share.
Just one more Italian Car Fest post coming up.

  8. They never did anything for me.. but then I was WAY too young, and they didn’t look like a Lamborghini.. .. lol.. The re-launched 500’s though are everywhere over here, so who knows, maybe they will even threaten the Mini crown..

    23. September, 2011 at 06:10

    • Wellll… given the choice between a 500 and a Lamborghini… I’d pick the 500 every time! Just kidding, I’d pick the Lamborghini and trade it in for a Mercedes or three 😉

Very cute, almost reminds me of a smart car. Small cars like that make me nervous though.

  10. Loved the last photo with the close-up of the bumper.

  11. I just bought a Fiat 500C and LOVE it! Traded in a big-ass, gas-guzzling Tahoe for it and smile every time I walk into the garage to get in the 500. True love!
