2011/269: Plano Balloon Festival, Part 2

As I mentioned yesterday, we went to the Plano (TX) Balloon Festival last Saturday. The launch was scheduled for 6pm, but it was a windy day, and things were not looking good.  After we ate dinner, we made our way to the launch field and found a spot to sit and wait…. and wait…. and wait some more. None of the balloons were being set up, and we were beginning to think that this was a waste of time. Of course the kids were bored, just sitting around waiting, and Greg took them back to the vendor area to get some gelato, while I stayed behind so we wouldn’t lose our seats.
Just as they came back, two of the balloons were being spread out on the ground, and filled! Unfortunately they had missed their window for the launch, but at least we still got to see some hot air balloons.

Sara had fun with her camera. Melissa brought hers, too (“because I made her”) but she didn’t take any pictures…. or she did, but deleted them. *sigh* what am I going to do with her?!

Finally starting to get dark…

omg, that’s a TON of people in the 1st pic! so none never went up?

For what it’s worth, I’m having a similar issue w/ Buddy. Doesn’t want to do anything lately, stopped playing golf/soccer, is content to sit around all day. I guess it’s the age but man, it’s soooo hard 😦

    • Nope, none went up at all during the festival (Friday-Sunday). It rained Friday evening, and then it was too windy. I think this was only the second time in the festival’s history, that all launches had to be cancelled.
Glad I’m not the only one… Melissa does nothing but sit around all day and either read, draw, or play on her DS 😦 She needs to have an open mind and MAKE it fun, and not think “it’s going to be boring”. I ended up sneaking out with Sara for a little while yesterday afternoon to take pictures together. Melissa still doesn’t know that Sara used her camera 😉

I love hot air balloons! I’ve even ridden in one! Love them lit at night.

    • You have??? How cool! I’m thinking of stashing some money away and riding in one one of these years. Rides are $250 😦 and have to be pre-booked. (Better be refundable if there’s no launch!)

I won the ride in a contest at a former job. I bet I have photos somewhere but we’re talking 17 years ago.

  4. Bummer that they didn’t get to launch after the crowds and the waiting. Cool that they at least filled some up so you could get a couple shots!

    • I was starting to get nervous that we wouldn’t get to see any balloons at all, so I was happy that we had these two (and thankfully there were even more later)
      Thanks, Deanna.

    • Thanks, Jewel….yes, that was a little disappointing. And yep, hopefully next year, and who knows, maybe I’ll have pictures from inside one of those baskets! 😉
