2014/028: Armadillo

Would you believe I’ve lived in Texas for over 16 years and have never (to my recollection) seen a live armadillo? The ones I have seen, have all been squished by the side of the road… Spotted this little guy (or gal?) on our way back from Fort Pickett. and luckily I had my camera ready and was able to get a few pictures through the car window.

  1. A fascinating creature. You were very lucky to get a picture of it.
We have been to Florida twice, and also saw an armadillo. Unfortunately I did not have the camera ready.

    • Odd looking little things, aren’t they? 😉
That’s too bad that you didn’t have the camera ready…there’s always next time 😉

  3. Very unique animal! I too have only seen them flattened by the side of roads, interestingly as far north as southern Kentucky.

    • I had no idea they can be found in Kentucky! I’ve only seen them in Texas and Oklahoma…and now Florida.

Cool! The only live one I’ve ever seen was on Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia.

    • Cumberland Island? Does that mean they can swim, or did they catch a ride on a boat? LOL 😉
