2014/089: Daffodils And Tulips

No visit to the Dallas Arboretum during Dallas Blooms is complete without some pictures of daffodils and tulips!

Is it possible to fall in love with a flower? Forget tulips and daffodils… these were my favorite to photograph at the Dallas Arboretum at Dallas Blooms this spring.

2014/084: iPhonographer

Since upgrading to the iPhone 5s I’ve been letting Sara borrow my old iPhone 4s and olloclip to take pictures. We made it to the Dallas Arboretum twice during spring break, and she had a blast! She brought her Kodak Easyshare the first time, and did take some pictures with it, but then she put it into her backpack and just took pictures with my old iPhone. The second time we went, she never even brought her camera 😉

2014/081: Photo Ideas

I promised Mike on his blog a while back that I would post some of my photo ideas, and I’m finally getting around to it. I had a short list already, but I needed some more ideas…..and I’m still open to suggestions, if anyone has any. As much as I love flowers, I want to photograph other things as well.

2014-081

So here’s what I have so far:
– Water droplets splashing in water (I asked a friend for a challenge and this is what I got… and it’s going to be a challenge!)
– Tilt shift
– Marbles
– (Burning) matches
– Continue my coffee mug series
– Oil & Water macros
– Game pieces / family game night
– Playing cards
– Food photography (possibly with the recipe)

*And no, the little camera in the photo above is not a Canon (I’d never go to the dark side! 😉 ), it’s a Couen.

2014/071: Chili-Chocoholic

I love chocolate. The only thing better than chocolate is chili chocolate! I’ve tried several brands, and some are better than others, and I’ve discovered that the cheaper brands are often better than the more expensive ones. I’ve tried a $7 bar of chili chocolate once, and even though it tasted very nice, the chocolate wasn’t very smooth and I won’t ever buy it again, even if I win the lottery 😉
These are the most recent brands I tasted (some more than once!) and the Sprouts ($1.99) store brand is by far my favorite. It definitely has a nice kick to it, but it’s not too spicy at all.

Next is the Lindt (around $2.49) brand, which got me hooked on chili chocolate after a friend mentioned to me that it tasted really nice. Who am I to say no to chocolate, so off I went to search for it…..and found it! You can taste the chili, but it doesn’t have the same kick as the Sprouts brand.

Then same friend as above virtually waved a Moser Roth brand bar of chili chocolate in my face, and that’s just cruel (don’t you agree? You just don’t do that to a chocoholic!!). I discovered that Aldi sells this brand ($1.99) and off I went to get a bar. Although it’s very nice chocolate, I couldn’t really taste the chili in it. It just tasted like dark chocolate.

The kids refuse to even try the chili chocolate, which is fine, because there will be more for ME! 🙂

2014/070: Fun With Citrus

2014/067: I ♥ Reading

I go through phases where I read all day every day (every free minute anyway 😉 ) and then there are times – like now – when it’s difficult to either find the time to read, or the ability to sit and relax long enough to read. There always seems to be something else or I get side tracked, and find myself wishing I could just turn everything off and concentrate on a good book.
I think I prefer to read e-books on my iPad (after saying for years that “real” books are the way to go, and I’d never get an e-reader 😉 ) but I still read the occasional paper book.
The book I’m reading right now (and which is pictured below) is the German edition of Night Waking by Sarah Moss.
I have many, many e-books (both complete and samples) downloaded on my iPad.
My favorite type of books are thrillers, mysteries, maybe something with a touch of the supernatural, or a crime/police drama (favorite series are the Logan McRae books by Stuart MacBride and I’m anxiously awaiting the next one).  I don’t much go for the romance novel, certainly not the historical romance novels (does that surprise you? 😉 ) And please no dragons, elves or wizards, etc. for me either!

What are you reading right now? Do you prefer e-books or paper books?
Would love it if you let me know in the comments 🙂
