2010/281: Memory Lane

These past two months have been full of reconnecting with friends from my childhood and teenage years, thanks to Facebook. It’s a little odd, really, that all these people are popping back into my life all at once, when there’s no connection between them, because some of them found me!
It all started with C., the very first friend I remember having. I’ve known her since I was four! We lived in the same apartment building, her family on the 5th floor, and mine on the 11th floor.  I remember that my mom didn’t like her at all, and I’m pretty sure her mom felt the same about me and my sister, but that didn’t stop us from playing together almost every single day. We lost touch soo many years ago, probably when I was in my early teens, but I thought of her often.
That’s her in the pink shirt, standing in the little “window” on the right. I’m sitting right in front of her.

B., who I met in 10th grade, who unfortunately introduced me to my ex (although, if that hadn’t happened, I never would have met Greg either). We stayed in touch for a while after I moved to the US, lost touch, got back in touch, and then lost touch again for a few years…. until just a few weeks ago.

P., from 7th grade, who played a HUGE part in me flunking and having to repeat the grade because I was too busy daydreaming about him, than concentrate on studying, or what the teachers had to say. It certainly didn’t help matters when we ended up sitting next to each other in class later in the school year. I don’t think he ever knew that I had such a huge crush on him, or he probably would have ignored me more than he did. And if he did know, he never said anything.
This picture was taken by one of my teachers (who I don’t remember) at a field trip to Nördlingen. I was either in 6th grade or 7th grade (the first time! 😉 … and I’m the one in the center)

A. who I met when I was 15, and who lived in the apartment building across from the one where I lived. We’ve been in touch off and on over the years, but the last few years have just been the occasional e-mail and Christmas card.

Then my best friend sent me a list of names from the last class reunion, and even though I couldn’t remember many of their faces, a lot of names were still familiar.
School days…. can’t say I ever liked school, but those were still the good ol’ days 🙂

No trip down memory lane will be complete without remembering my dad. After all, I did inherit the shutterbug genes from him! 😉
He passed away in August 1992 and I still miss him every single day. Today would have been his 66th Birthday. Happy Birthday, Dad ♥

2010/138: Bonus: Birthday Lunch

I met with a friend for a very belated Birthday lunch today. I met Claudia at the gym sometime last fall, when I walked in shortly after her and someone at the front desk mentioned to me that she was from Germany, too. He also mentioned to Claudia that I was from Germany (well, close enough anyway) and we bumped into each other (not literally) a while later and introduced ourselves.
We ran into each other from time to time and chatted for a few minutes each time. When we found out that we’re the same age, AND our birthdays are only within about two weeks of each other (I’m the older one 😛 ), we decided to celebrate together when the weather was warmer. Unfortunately sick kids, vacations, bad weather, and busy schedules prevented us from meeting up… until today! And I have to say that we picked the perfect day, because it was just beautiful outside, and we did ask for a table outside.
We met at the restaurant at 11:30 am and didn’t leave until 2:10pm, when we had to go because it was time to pick up the kids. We probably could have sat there all day otherwise 🙂

2009/131: Summer Vacation Plans

That’s right! We’re heading east this year, to New Jersey and New York… and whatever is in between! We’re still working out the details about what to see, but Greg has 17 days off work and that should hopefully give us plenty of time.
First we will be heading to Indiana/Illinois to see my boys. Well, Cameron anyway, and I will finally get to meet my daughter-in-law! Nick may or may not be back. He’s coming to visit us (and then head to Florida) after he graduates in mid June. He said he’s heading back home when he runs low on money.
Then we’re on our way east.  I’m sure this will turn into another DDD tour (aka “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”, the show on Food Network), which should be fun.
If anyone knows of some great places to see, or fun things to do between Texas and New York, please let me know in the comments!
And of course we’re hoping to see some online friends along the way, too, like Amy, Doreen, and Dalia… and Cheryl, if you want to make the drive down to Illinois.
I can’t wait!!

2009/75: A Thank You

I received a little surprise in the mail on Saturday. It was a thank you from my friend Amy , and to celebrate her 1-year blogging anniversary. It was a beautiful photo album and a small little note book, that will be perfect to keep in my camera bag. And some orange creme Kisses!
Thank you, Amy, for that special surprise. And thank you for blogging. I have a few very favorite blogs, that I really look forward to reading every day, and yours has always been one of them.
As you can see, I’ve already picked out a few pictures to put into the album. It really shows off the photos well.

2009-075-thankyou
(The Kisses will get a post of their own soon!)

At The Mall

We went to the mall with friends the other day and the kids had a great time, playing in the little stream that’s there. Not that you can tell that by the picture!! At least one of them is halfway smiling.
