2012/069: In Full Bloom
This was one of our plum trees last week….now most of the flowers are gone, and it’s beginning to look green.
2011/292: Woodpecker
Came home from the store, and as I got out of the car, I heard little tapping sounds. Looked around to see where they were coming from and what they were, and found this little guy in one of the trees in front of our house. I hurried inside to get may camera, and was lucky enough to snap a picture or two as he made me chase him around the tree for a better angle.
2011/251: Drought
It’s pretty bad this year. Not only have we not had ANY significant rainfall, but we’ve had to deal with triple digit temperatures for most of the summer as well. Highs are still in the 90’s (above 30 degrees Celsius), and there’s still a chance that we’ll see triple digits again. The saddest part is that since December, wildfires here in Texas have burned over 3.5 million acres (an area the size of Connecticut), and destroyed over 1000 homes.
So far, we have been lucky and there haven’t been any wildfires too close to us. but yesterday morning I could smell the smoke from the Austin and Houston area fires here in the Dallas area. The fires are still burning and only a small percentage is contained.
Brown, very dry leaves…. something you’d expect to see in the middle of winter
The grass is so dry, it crunches when you walk on it (and scratches up your arm and knee when try to get a “bug’s eye view” picture – the sacrifices we make! 😉 )
2010/086: Redbud
These pictures are from last year, but they’re in full bloom now… and it won’t be long until we see leaves.
Hidden
Built this birdhouse myself (came in a kit), painted it, and found it a place in one of our plum trees. So far none of the birds that we had to chase from our back porch have moved into it…. maybe next year?
Fog
It was a foggy morning yesterday… made for a scary drive to school because you could barely see in front of you!
Had to make a trip to Wal-Mart and decided to take the camera, that was around 9:30 am, and visibility was so bad that I almost chickened out and turned around to go back home… but it’s only about 2 miles to Wal-Mart from my house, so I kept going.
This tree was on the edge of the field next to Wal-Mart. I was parked right across the street.
A picture of Wal-Mart from where I was parked.
And this was around 10 am, when I was on my way home, taken from the car (I was safely in the turn lane and NOT moving when I took this!) . You wouldn’t believe all the IDIOTS driving in the fog without their headlights on!!!!!
Looking In
We had a beautiful sunset yesterday, and I decided to go outside to take some pictures. I thought the reflection looked really neat in our living room window. And yes, that’s the Superbowl on TV. The second picture shows a real view of the sunset.
