2011/040: Cardinal
I was trying to take pictures of the falling snow last week, and couldn’t help thinking of Tracy when a red blur flew through my viewfinder and sat down in the neighbor’s tree. I quickly took a few pictures with my 18-200mm lens before digging out the 80-400mm, and good thing I did, because by the time I had the other lens on the camera, he was gone!
I love seeing the cardinals in snowy trees. They are so eye catching against the snowy background.

So, he doesn’t just elude ME! 🙂 I have that ‘dream photo’ in the back of my mind of the male cardinal in the snow. Such a great pop of color in an otherwise white world!

Well, he DID show up to pose for me… I should have let him know, that I was just going to get the other lens. He probably thought I got the shots I wanted and that’s why he flew off 😉

I can’t believe it is that snowy up there…

I was last week. Today is mostly ice and sleet. We were SUPPOSED to get 3-5 inches of snow, but only got a dusting on top of the white mess.

oh wow, what a lucky find! too bad he didn’t stick around. that’s quite a range..do you use that lens alot?

Thanks, Doreen! I don’t use the 18-200 as much as the macro, but I do use it quite a bit for the everyday (non macro) stuff.

I am soooo jealous!! I’ve been trying to capture our male cardinal in a snow-dusted spruce tree for at least a month. He keeps teasing me and flying off before I can get a decent shot. Or he’ll sit there when the light is awful.
Well done!! He’s beautiful. 🙂

is the 80-400mm a macro?

No, it’s not a macro.

We got the 3-5 and it’s so cold, even the cardinals are hiding! Love the photographs!!
