2011/268: Plano Balloon Festival, Part 1

Last Saturday (September 17, 2011), we went to the Plano Balloon Festival.  We wanted to see the launch at 6pm and the “balloon glow” at 8pm. We left early enough to get dinner at one of the vendors first, and then hopefully find a good spot to see the launch. It was crowded!!! We had been to the festival once before, about five years ago, but I don’t remember there being this many people!
While we were standing in line to get dinner, several skydivers jumped out of a small airplane. (Crazy people! Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane…)

And here you can play a little game of  Where’s Waldo Greg

Oh! Where are the balloons, you ask? You’ll have to come back tomorrow to see them 😉

  1. *Note to self – “Must learn to read title properly first”, as I’ve just been trying to figure out what on earth a Piano Balloon Festival was !!… Duh… Must have been good though judging by the crowds… 🙂

    • That would be Plano, Texas 🙂
LOL, don’t you wish you had an excuse for that? (ME, I could say, it’s too early in the morning and I haven’t had my coffee yet 😉 )

It was pretty good, but could have been better

        • Haha, nice try! Almost Noon doesn’t really count as morning anymore…. unless you sleep until Noon 😉
(Pretty sure you’re 6 hours ahead, since Germany is 7 hours ahead)

  2. I’m about to head out to the Plaza Art Fair and I’m pretty sure the crowds will be equal, but I doubt there will be any folks jumping out of airplanes doggoneit. 😉 Can’t wait to see your glow pics!! I’ll be baaaaaack…

omg, I HATE crowds. not sure I could handle that. We had plans to go this summer for one up north but it didn’t work out 😦 Can’t wait to see the balloons, hope it was worth navigating the crowds!

    • Definitely worth it! Most of the people where in the vendor area, and we didn’t spend all that much time there. We actually didn’t walk through most of it (never walked through those “Welcome” gates in the first photo).

  5. How many balloons go up Daily?

    • None went up this year 😦 Every launch had to be cancelled (on all 2 1/2 days of the festival) because of rain or wind.
