2014/052: Karma’s Photo Hunt
Did you enter Karen’s A Blogger Contrived Photo Hunt ? If not, there’s still time, as the due date isn’t until February 25th.
For this photo hunt we were supposed to choose a word, and then look for objects around the house that start with each letter of our chosen word. It sounded easy, but then I had a hard time finding objects to represent the letters.
I chose my name as my word: Michaela (for those of you who didn’t / don’t know 😉 ) and I decided to take two photos for each letter…
M is for Music (OK, not technically an object) and this is my favorite way to listen to it
M is also for Markers (Sara thought of those, because I couldn’t think of anything else LOL)
I is for iMessages…. again, not technically an object, but they’re the only good thing to wake up to when you’re up at Stoopid o’clock. Reading those is the first thing I do after dragging myself out of bed, and having TEN of them waiting for me that morning was a nice surprise (even if they are all from the same person)
I is also for Ivy…. one of the more recent plants I bought. We shall see how long it will survive. I tend to forget to water them. Oops!
C is for Coffee…. the other nice thing when you’re up at Stoopid o’clock!
C is also for Candle. Love them!! This one was on my desk (will be again soon, but it has been temporarily replaced with a different candle) and I light it in the morning when it’s still dark out (you know…at Stoopid o’clock 😉 ) so I don’t have to turn on the light
H is for Hearts…. because I know you all would have been disappointed if I didn’t post any hearts! These are my heart-shaped rocks that I found over the years.
H is also for Herbs, and I’m glad they’re not spelled Erbs, or I might still be looking for another object that starts with H 😛
A is for Apple…. sadly I’m allergic to raw apples, they make my throat itch terribly!
A is for Apple (I know I said that already LOL)
E is for Ear buds…. sometimes those are needed to listen to music.
E is also for Eggs…. which I don’t like at all unless they’re deviled eggs.
L is for Lace
L is also for Letters. I still love it when I get a letter in the mail, how about you? All these are from Germany.
A is for Art…. and I have two talented artists as daughters. 17-year-old Melissa, and 10-year-old Sara. I’m sure you can tell who drew what 🙂
A is unfortunately also for Antihistamine, because Allergy season is right around the corner.

These are great! I’m glad you told us what each image was. I would have had a difficult time with some of them. 🙂 I have learned from this project that everyone ‘views’ an image through their own history. It has taught me to be better at telling the story…
P.S., sometimes Stoopid o’clock is the best time though since for me it is my quiet time… 😉

Thanks Mike. Yup. there’s always two (or more?) ways of looking at something…and it’s more difficult to figure out when the represented word isn’t an object.
And yes!! Stoopid o’clock is definitely my quiet time, too. Even when I have all day to myself, the time when everyone else is still sleeping is what I enjoy most (esp. after a cup of coffee 😉 )

Definitely the coffee! 🙂

From the times I see you leaving comments, and the fact that you must be at least one time zone behind me, it seems you are up at stoopid o’clock pretty regularly. Is your body still set to Germany’s time even though you’ve lived here for so long? LOL.
I love your photo hunt. Your photos are beautifully done. Any chance you would share settings/lighting situations with me? I was telling Mike, I’m never crazy about my indoor photography. I’ve chosen my photo hunt objects, but I haven’t decided how to set up the shots.

Oh yes, I’m up at Stoopid o’clock every day. Doesn’t matter if I pass out on the couch by 8:30pm or stay up until midnight. I used to wake up around 5am, which was perfect, and gave me a whole hour of peace and quiet to myself, but for the past two years or so I’m awake at around 4 am, sometimes even earlier. And no, Germany is 7 hours ahead of me, that’s too much. I need to move about three or four time zones east (even on Eastern Time I wake up really early!!)
Anyway….settings….not sure if they will do you any good, because I do edit my photos and that can make a big difference in how they look. All of these were taken indoors and with flash (not the pop-up!!) and I believe the aperture was between f5.6 and f8 for most of these, and I had most of these set up next to a window to help with lighting. Best advice I can give is to experiment with your settings and then decide what you like best. I can’t remember if you have a speedlite….I pretty much just wing it with mine and point it in different directions to see what it will do.
Glad you like my photos. Thanks Karen 🙂

Thank you. I’ve been trying to do more with editing photos lately. I received Lightroom for Christmas so I am hoping I will be able to use it to help me out. I have a wicked old speedlight from the days long before digital that I could try and see if it works.

I think I downloaded the trial version of Lightroom a few years ago, and was completely lost LOL
If your speedlight doesn’t work, set up in front of a bright window, that should really help, too

LOL thank you Dawn, that would be nice…although highly doubtful. But I’ll have some iMessages from my best friend waiting for me to make it all worth it. (And I’ll most likely be asleep on the couch before 10 pm, too! 😉 )
